What is Spex?

So far we have a limited amount of informationen in english, but hopefully you will find what you are looking for. We start out with a little Q&A:

What is spex?

It is a comical theatre show with lots of different types of humour, music, songs and dances. Our shows are usually about two hours long. However, since improvisation is a part of the show, it is hard to determine the exact length.

One such improvisational phenomenon is called “Re-start”(in Swedish Omstart). This means that the audience can demand that the actors redo a certain passage in the play, but in a different way. This is one way in which the audience can interact with the ensamble during the Spex-show.

What does the Spex association do?

We produce a theatre show from start to finish; writing the script and the lyrics, building the stage design, sewing the clothes, handling the promotion, printing posters, in short everything that comes with the task of putting up a show.

Being a member

Participation in the spex Gives you new friends, interesting experiences and fun challenges. We have a number of get-togethers during the year, and it is also always a good merit to have taken part in student activities. You will get a written certificate to prove what you have done.

Who can join?

EVERYONE! Regardless of what you are studying, or what previous experiences you have, you are very welcome to join us! There is a place and a task for all kinds of talents and interests.

How is the show put together?

The practical work is shared among all members, divided into different production groups. Students who do not speak Swedish can join one of the following groups:

• Dancers
• Lighting Technicians
• Sound Technicians
• Stage Designers
• Costume Designers
• Public Relations
• Posters
• Flyers

If you are in Dalarna only for the autumn term, then the last five groups apply. Also the small “Christmas Spex” that we do in November might need you.
